When cooking on a Z Grills Pellet Smoker it is useful to monitor the internal temperature of the food. Food temperature is important for safety but also to know when it may be time to wrap, boat or begin the resting process.
Food Temperature Guide
The chart below was developed with input from our amazing Aussie Z Grills community.
The 15x 15cm magnetic versions of this guide is now available on our online shop.
Monitoring Temperature
It is best to keep the grill lid shut to avoid loosing heat, and so using an external food probe is highly recommended. Below are a few devices you can use to monitor temps during your cooks.
Z Grills Smoker Food Probes
Z Grills smokers come with one or two food probes that plug into the front of the controller.
Read the temperature by pressing the “Food Probe Temp” button which will show the temperatures on the display.

The rubber sleeves on the temperature probes are simply to help prevent burning fingers when pulling them out if you forget to wear gloves!
Instant Read Thermometer
An instant read thermometer is a must in any kitchen or grill tool kit! They are perfect for quickly checking the internal temperature of your food. It allows rapid reading of the temperature thanks to the thin probe tip, but is also effective to “probe” the food to feel if it is tender enough.
